How To Setup Your Wallet on The Polygon Network

While Smart Contracts and dApps are the future of the web, few people can afford to spend $60 on a single transaction on the Ethereum Blockchain. This is why the Polygon Network, a layer 2 scaling solution was built for the Ethereum blockchain. One of the greatest benefits of the Polygon Network being very very cheap transaction fees, less then $0.01!

Little wonder Otter Pocket was built on top of the Polygon Network.

How can you use dApps on the Polygon Network? And accept tokens minted on Polygon? The first step is to set up your web3 wallet to the network. Here we will use one of the most common web wallets, Metamask, to connect to Polygon.

Install the MetaMask Extension from the Store

MetaMask is a Chrome extension. Visit the browser extension marketplace and download the MetaMask extension.

Create a MetaMask Wallet or Import One

I’d suggest creating a new one if you haven’t done so.

Click import wallet if you have an existing wallet.

Setup your password and secret recovery phrase somewhere safe.

Setup MetaMask to connect to Matic Network

Switch the connected blockchain by clicking on the tab saying Main Ethereum Network, we need to add the Matic network.

Scroll down until you find Custom RPC.

Enter in the Matic Mainnet settings as follows:

  • Network Name: Polygon
  • New RPC URL: https://rpc-mainnet.matic.network or
    https://rpc-mainnet.maticvigil.com or
    https://rpc-mainnet.matic.quiknode.pro or
    https://matic-mainnet.chainstacklabs.com or
    https://matic-mainnet-full-rpc.bwarelabs.com or
    https://matic-mainnet-archive-rpc.bwarelabs.com
  • ChainID: 137
  • Symbol: MATIC
  • Block Explorer URL: https://polygonscan.com/
How your settings should look

Click Save.

You have now connected to the Matic mainnet with your Metamask Wallet! You can now interact with dApps on Polygon like OtterPocket, and store your Tokens minted on Polygon, like OTTER!

Transactions on the Polygon network requires its native token MATIC which will be used as gas fee.

Stay Up to date with the launch of the OTTER Token.
